The United Republic of Tanzania is participating in the 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa (AFR/RC76), which is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 to 28 August 2026.
The high-level meeting brings together Ministers of Health and senior government officials from the 47 Member States of the African Region to discuss and adopt regional health policies, strategies, and programs aimed at strengthening the health and well-being of people across Africa.
The Tanzanian delegation is led by Hon. Dr. Florence George Samizi (MP), Deputy Minister for Health, who has arrived in Addis Ababa representing Hon. Mohamed Omary Mchengerwa (MP), Minister for Health of the United Republic of Tanzania, at the meeting.
The delegation was received at the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Addis Ababa by H.E. Innocent Shiyo, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Ethiopia.
The session is the highest-level decision-making forum of the WHO in the African Region and provides an important platform for Member States to jointly assess regional health priorities, review the implementation of commitments and decisions, and provide strategic direction on the health challenges facing Africa.
During the session, Member States are expected to discuss a range of issues related to strengthening health systems, disease prevention and control, maternal and child health, health security, preparedness and response to health emergencies, health financing, as well as other priority areas critical to achieving quality universal health coverage and improving health outcomes across Africa.
Tanzania is expected to actively participate in these discussions and contribute to regional health policy deliberations by sharing the country’s experience, priorities, and achievements in strengthening its health system. The participation also provides an opportunity for Tanzania to exchange experiences and best practices with other Member States and contribute to developing and strengthening collective African responses to the health challenges facing the continent. Maternal and child health remains one of Tanzania’s key priorities, with the country continuing to strengthen efforts to reduce mortality and ensure timely access to quality healthcare services for women and children.
The session also provides Tanzania with an opportunity to further its engagement in regional and global health initiatives, including strengthening cooperation and partnerships and mobilising resources to support the implementation of national and regional health priorities. Through its participation, Tanzania will continue to support and advocate for African-led systems and strategies to address the health challenges facing the continent.
The participation of the Tanzanian delegation in AFR/RC76 demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening the country’s health system and contributing to collective efforts to improve the health and well-being of people across the African Region. It further reaffirms Tanzania’s commitment to continued collaboration with WHO, African countries, and development partners in building and strengthening equitable, resilient, and sustainable health systems capable of responding to various challenges, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The programme of Hon. Dr. Florence George Samizi (MP), Deputy Minister for Health, began with participation in the “Walk the Talk” event ahead of the AFR/RC76 meeting. The walk carries a message encouraging leaders and citizens to translate health commitments and policies into action, guided by the principle of “Health for All.” It also highlights the importance of disease prevention, promoting healthy lifestyles, and building a healthier and more prosperous Africa for all.
TANZANIA YASHIRIKI KIKAO CHA 76 CHA KAMATI YA KANDA YA WHO KWA AJILI YA AFRIKA, ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania inashiriki katika Kikao cha 76 cha Kamati ya Kanda ya Afrika ya Shirika la Afya Duniani -WHO) (76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa – AFR/RC76), kinachofanyika jijini Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, kuanzia tarehe 25 hadi 28 Agosti 2026.
Kikao hicho cha ngazi ya juu kinawakutanisha Mawaziri wa Afya na viongozi wakuu wa Serikali kutoka Nchi Wanachama 47 za Kanda ya Afrika, kwa ajili ya kujadili na kupitisha sera, mikakati na mipango ya kikanda inayolenga kuimarisha afya na ustawi wa wananchi barani Afrika.
Ujumbe wa Tanzania unaongozwa na Mhe. Dkt. Florence George Samizi (Mb.), Naibu Waziri wa Afya, ambaye amewasili Addis Ababa akimwakilisha Mhe. Mohamed Omary Mchengerwa (Mb.), Waziri wa Afya wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, katika Kikao hicho.
Ujumbe huo umepokelewa katika Ubalozi wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania jijini Addis Ababa na Mhe. Innocent Shiyo, Balozi wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania nchini Ethiopia.
Kikao hiki ni chombo cha ngazi ya juu cha WHO katika Kanda ya Afrika, na ni jukwaa muhimu kwa Nchi Wanachama kutathmini kwa pamoja vipaumbele vya afya vya kikanda, kupitia utekelezaji wa ahadi na maamuzi yaliyokubaliwa, pamoja na kutoa mwelekeo wa kimkakati kuhusu changamoto za afya zinazoikabili Afrika.
Katika kikao hicho, Nchi Wanachama zinatarajiwa kujadili masuala mbalimbali yanayohusu uimarishaji wa mifumo ya afya, kinga na udhibiti wa magonjwa, afya ya mama na mtoto, usalama wa afya, utayari na mwitikio dhidi ya dharura za kiafya, ugharamiaji wa huduma za afya, pamoja na maeneo mengine ya kipaumbele yenye umuhimu katika kufikia huduma bora za afya kwa wote na kuboresha hali ya afya barani Afrika.
Tanzania inatarajiwa kushiriki kikamilifu katika mijadala hiyo na kuchangia katika majadiliano ya sera za afya za kikanda, huku ikitoa uzoefu, vipaumbele na mafanikio ya nchi katika kuimarisha mfumo wa afya. Ushiriki huo pia unatoa fursa kwa Tanzania kubadilishana uzoefu na mbinu bora na Nchi Wanachama nyingine, pamoja na kuchangia katika kuandaa na kuimarisha hatua za pamoja za Afrika katika kukabiliana na changamoto za afya zinazolikabili bara. Afya ya mama na mtoto ni miongoni mwa vipaumbele vya Tanzania, ambayo inaendelea kuimarisha hatua za kupunguza vifo na kuhakikisha upatikanaji wa huduma bora na kwa wakati kwa wanawake na watoto.
Kikao hicho pia kinatoa fursa kwa Tanzania kuendeleza ushiriki wake katika mipango ya afya ya kikanda na kimataifa, ikiwemo kuimarisha ushirikiano na ubia pamoja na kuhamasisha rasilimali kwa ajili ya kutekeleza vipaumbele vya afya vya kitaifa na kikanda. Kupitia ushiriki wake, Tanzania itaendelea kuunga mkono na kutetea mifumo na mikakati inayoongozwa na Afrika katika kukabiliana na changamoto za afya zinazoikabili bara la Afrika.
Ushiriki wa Ujumbe wa Tanzania katika AFR/RC76 unaonesha dhamira endelevu ya Serikali ya kuimarisha mfumo wa afya nchini na kuchangia katika juhudi za pamoja za kuboresha afya na ustawi wa wananchi katika Kanda ya Afrika. Aidha, unathibitisha dhamira ya Tanzania ya kuendelea kushirikiana na WHO, nchi za Afrika na washirika wa maendeleo katika kujenga na kuimarisha mifumo ya afya yenye usawa, imara, inayoweza kukabiliana na changamoto mbalimbali na endelevu, ili kuhakikisha hakuna anayesahaulika.
Ratiba ya Mhe. Dkt. Florence George Samizi (Mb.), Naibu Waziri wa Afya, imeanza kwa kushiriki katika Matembezi ya “Walk the Talk” kuelekea Mkutano wa AFR/RC76. Matembezi hayo yana ujumbe wa kuhimiza viongozi na wananchi kutafsiri kwa vitendo ahadi na sera za afya kwa kuzingatia dhana ya “Afya kwa Wote”, huku yakisisitiza umuhimu wa kuzuia magonjwa, kuimarisha maisha yenye afya na kujenga Afrika yenye afya na ustawi kwa wote.
