The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Grace Magembe, arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on August 24, 2026, to join the Tanzanian delegation led by the Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Dr. Florence Samizi, at the 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, taking place from August 25–28, 2026.
Dr. Magembe was received in Addis Ababa by the Ambassador of Tanzania to Ethiopia, H.E. Innocent Shiyo, alongside other Tanzanian leaders and officials based in Ethiopia.
During her visit, Dr. Magembe will also participate in various side meetings held on the margins of the conference, as well as other activities related to health and international cooperation. These engagements aim to facilitate the exchange of experiences and knowledge on approaches to strengthening the delivery of health services to citizens.
Tanzania’s participation in the meeting comes at a time when the country continues to make a significant contribution to Africa’s health agenda, particularly in the areas of maternal, child and reproductive health. This aligns with the appointment of H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, as the African Union (AU) Champion for Maternal and Child Health—an appointment that reflects Tanzania’s commitment and contribution to advancing the health and well-being of women and children across Africa.
