The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health responsible for Medicines and Medical Devices, Mr. Emmanuel Daud Tayari, is leading the United Republic of Tanzania delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 13th East African Healthcare Federation (EAHF) Conference, taking place from 21–23 August 2026. He is representing the Minister of Health, Hon. Mohamed Mchengerwa. The Tanzanian delegation was received at the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Addis Ababa by H.E. Innocent E. Shiyo, Ambassador of Tanzania to Ethiopia.

The conference, held under the theme “Resilience: Building the East African Health Economy,” aims to strengthen regional cooperation in the health sector through discussions and joint strategies in key areas, including local manufacturing of medicines and medical devices, digital health innovation, expansion and improvement of healthcare delivery, strengthening healthcare financing systems, and building the capacity of health professionals across East Africa.

The conference will address key areas aimed at building a resilient, inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready East African healthcare system capable of responding to current and emerging challenges. These areas include Re-imagining Healthcare Financing; Positioning East Africa as a Global Medical Tourism Destination; Advancing Healthcare Quality; Reinventing Primary Health Care; Transforming Healthcare through Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence; Building the Future Health Workforce for East Africa; Health Security in an Uncertain World; Made in Africa: Accelerating Local Manufacturing for Health Security and Sovereignty; and Public–Private Partnerships: Unlocking Investment for Health.

The United Republic of Tanzania is actively participating in the discussions, with emphasis on areas of strategic importance to the development of Tanzania’s health sector and the wider East African region. Tanzania will contribute to discussions on “Vision 2035: Shaping the Future of East Africa’s Health,” emphasizing the importance of a shared regional vision that will enable East African countries to build healthcare systems capable of delivering quality, timely, and equitable services while strengthening investment, innovation, local manufacturing, and regional cooperation in the health sector.

Tanzania will also contribute to discussions on Positioning East Africa as a Global Medical Tourism Destination, as well as Advancing Healthcare Quality. In addition, Tanzania will contribute to Building the Future Health Workforce for East Africa, recognizing that skilled, professional, and technologically adaptable health workers are fundamental to building strong and resilient healthcare systems.
